Moray Salt mines atv half day tour

We will begin to drive ATVs to Moray archaeological site, a fascinating complex considered by many researchers to be an ancient Inca agricultural laboratory. Here, the Incas conducted experiments to adapt and improve various crops from different regions of the empire.

Moray is notable for its impressive concentric circular terraces, built of stone and arranged in rings that descend at different levels. This unique design not only creates a singular architectural landscape but also generated microclimates ideal for agricultural experimentation.

Afterward, we will continue our tour to the Maras Salt Mines, an extraordinary network of thousands of salt ponds that have been used since pre-Inca and Inca times. This site has been fundamental to the production of salt, a valuable natural resource essential for human consumption, the exploitation of which continued even during the colonial period.

During the visit, we will reach a strategic point on the circuit, from where we will continue the journey in our transport. This is because the rest of the route includes areas with steep drops, so the safety of our visitors is always our top priority.

Enjoy spectacular Andean landscapes, surrounded by mountains, traditional fields, and the imposing presence of snow-capped peaks like Verónica and Chikón, among others, making this an unforgettable adventure.

When you are ready after training, we will begin our tour heading to the archaeological center of Moray, an agricultural experimentation laboratory that the Incas used to adapt products brought from other areas.

Here you can see many concentric circles of stone structures forming a ring that rises and widens.

Then we will go to the mines of Salt in Maras, a very important town for the extraction of salt, a rare mineral since Inca times and essential for human nutrition.

This continued during the colonial period as well.

We go to a certain part of the field and we do the rest in our transport because there is a chasm and it is dangerous.

During this excursion we will be able to admire the impressive landscapes of the region, as well as the snow-capped Veronika and Chikon, among others.

Afterward, we’ll travel to Chinchero, a picturesque Andean village renowned for its rich textile tradition. There, we’ll visit a community of artisan families dedicated to crafting beautiful traditional textiles.

During the visit, you’ll learn firsthand about ancient weaving techniques inherited from the Inca era, which have been preserved and passed down through generations. The artisans create unique pieces with designs inspired by their Andean worldview, using natural dyes obtained from flowers, roots, leaves, minerals, and other elements of nature.
